But how do you know what to look for?
It’s essential to look at the details of the specified materials and services in a quote, to understand if the final products and services will be of equal value. Your time is valuable – so we’ve put together this short guide highlighting four key areas to focus on.
Four quick ways to check if our quotes are like-for-like:
1. THERMAL
What is the thermal offering, and how is it being achieved?
Merronbrook make it very clear what we’re offering as a typical U-Value, and how it’s achieved (mostly by fitting the very highest quality insulation). The ramifications for how this affects follow-on trades, wall thicknesses, and material costs are all shown. We also provide our own Psi-Values for thermal junctions.
Many quotes only include for basic insulation and require further enhancements.
2. FIRE SAFETY
Has a desktop assessment for Fire During Construction been carried out, and has the appropriate spec. been costed for?
Where possible, Merronbrook assess this fire risk in accordance with STA guidance, and quote for the enhancements we feel appropriate. We recommend this is looked at early to avoid significant ‘surprise’ costs later.
Many quotes make no allowance for enhancing the timber products to the required spec.
3. ON SITE SAFETY
Is all mechanical handling and specialist delivery equipment included?
We never cut corners on safety and always include the appropriate provision of mechanical handling, and we try to make sure we know how deliveries will get onto your site, and be unloaded, and include for this too.
Many quotes exclude cranes, Hiab offloading, and reduced-access (rigid) lorries.
4. QUALITY
How robust is the Quality Assurance process?
Merronbrook manufactures all our products in the UK. Our factory process of tracking every part, panel and bundle through every stage of its production, delivery and installation is unparallelled. This is then followed by a unique digitised snagging handling process giving you full confidence in the most thorough possible handover process. Our QA process is ISO9001 certified and exceeds the STA Assure GOLD standard.
Some competitors offer no robust sign-off process and cannot track production, deliveries, installation and snagging to the degree that we do.
Price is vital but on balance, when considering all these factors, is the quote comparable?
